Public Relations Specialist

Goddard Systems, Inc. (GSI) is looking for an experienced Public Relations Specialist with a passion for consistent messaging and telling a brand story.

The successful candidate will be well-versed at developing communications that help drive positive news coverage for both GSI and Goddard franchisees. This PR Specialist will engage with internal GSI colleagues, franchisees, and members of the media to strategically support the internal Public Relations team, PR department processes, and PR agency vendor.

The successful candidate must be a strong communicator with proven verbal, written, and interpersonal skills. This team player must have experience developing and executing PR campaigns, knowledge and application of traditional PR tactics, and ability to work with the marketing and social media teams. The ideal candidate understands strategy, works tactically, thrives in a collaborative setting, embraces processes and deadlines, and is flexible to pivot as needed.

Responsibilities:
• Manage the intake of PR requests from franchisees, evaluate and identify the PR requests worth pursuing, and build PR strategies to uphold the Goddard reputation
• Create and execute PR plans for franchisee requests, following PR department processes and meeting Goddard standards
• Secure positive local press hits for Goddard Schools; provide PR support to franchisees to positively promote Goddard Schools regionally and help drive enrollment leads
• Contribute to and support the publicity efforts behind national brand campaigns
• Ensure all communication is cohesive with the Goddard image; maintain brand consistency
• Create pitches and press materials including press releases, talking points, and FAQs
• Write news page posts for Goddard Schools, work with franchisees on editing, and publish onto Schools’ websites
• Monitor for PR-related content produced by franchisees
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key media partners, influencers and franchisees
• Coordinate media interviews; research and build media lists
• Compile data and key takeaways on PR initiatives; track and analyze media coverage to inform future campaigns
• Assist with media training, as needed
• Support the internal PR team, and serve as liaison to PR agency vendor
• Complete other PR-related job duties, tasks, and projects

Qualification:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism or related field required
• 8+ years of PR or Communications experience in a corporate setting or a franchise system
• Minimum of 8 years on a corporate communications team with demonstrated project management
• Experience in pitching and securing positive press coverage in TV, radio, online and print outlets
• Experience in creating and writing press releases, talking points, and FAQs
• Organizational skills with demonstrated ability to prioritize workload and concurrently manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment without compromising quality
• Experience in media training
• Experience in building media lists
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Proficiency in social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn
• Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills
• Understanding of measuring the impact and ROI of communications activities
• Good sense of judgment and discretion in the face of challenging or sensitive situations
• Ability to handle confidential matters
• Understanding of crisis communications and when to escalate an issue
• Ability to take direction and feedback well
• Desire to grow and learn

• Proficient computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office suite
• Experience with Cision preferred
