F.A. Davis is hiring a Content Project Manager.
Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Project Management, Nursing, and in conjunction with the Acquisition Editor, the Content Project Manager coordinates and manages the implementation of editorial plan for assigned projects from contract through development and release to production and publication.
Minimum Qualifications/Experience:
- 4+ years of experience working in content/editorial/digital publishing capacity
- Must have experience managing complex revisions as well as small first-edition projects
- Must have art program development and digital media experience (This position requires minimal supervision)
- Self-starter with strong organizational, interpersonal, and written communication skills
- Flexible and creative approach to problem solving
- Resourceful, decisive, and unflappable
- Attentive to detail
- Able to work independently, with some supervision
- Able to foresee and avert problems
- Able to manage authors and interact with them professionally

- Thorough familiarity with requirements for preparing manuscript to move smoothly through production
- Experience in managing multiple, high-priority projects, including ancillary programs
- Familiarity with acceptable formats for digital text and art
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PPT, Google Docs, ftp sites and Drop Box
- Experience with digital content, CMS, DAM (Digital Asset Manager) and internet research
- Understanding of web-based software solutions and experience with audio/video digital media a plus
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordination of all aspects (manuscript, reviews, artwork, photos, ancillaries etc.) of assigned projects to develop a smooth workflow through release to production and publication
- Ensure assigned projects meet approved proposal specifications (contractual due date, schedule, art budget, page length, number of images, ancillaries, etc.)
- Author/Contributor/DE/freelance day-to-day contact and support, serving as “point person” for the project, as well as liaison with other depts/functions (e.g., Print Production, DP, Sales, Mktg, Customers)
- Develop and implement schedules for each project to guarantee the ideal market publication date and manage authors/DEs/freelancers through the schedule. Update schedules as needed
- Work with authors/AE/DP to create ancillaries/digital online assets for assigned projects
- Facilitate the peer review process in conjunction with AE; obtaining both content and market reviews or delegating to Editorial Assistant, analyzing results, and communicating results effectively to authors/AEs
- Coordinate author kick off meetings and editorial update meetings as needed; facilitate RTP manuscript meetings
- Attend production and DP meetings to provide/obtain updated information
- Track all manuscript content through planning and development
- Maintain and update project information in Klopotek, Censhare, CMS and Project Files on Nursing Drive
- Ensure consistent standards throughout MS development process
- Request Design and cover for revisions/non-DE projects; work with the DE on the design of first edition projects
- Manuscript preparation (includes Censhare, preparing CPI, Production instructions, CMS) for release to Print Production or DP
- Prepare Project Proposal update for Financial Checkpoints; present updates at New Product Meeting
- Manage permission process including guiding authors and ensuring all permissions are requested and granted; Upload all files with accompanying metadata into Censhare at RTP or by “files to mfg” date for large titles
- Manage authors through process for XML projects as assigned
- Review promotional materials, back cover copy (bcc) and Field Note Book (FNB) to ensure clarity and accuracy throughout life cycle of product
- Maintain files, contributor information in Klopotek, and request reviewer/contributor payments in absence of Editorial Assistant
- Act as resource for new and more junior CPMs
- Other duties and projects as assigned by Manager
Education/Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, science, or related field
This position is overtime eligible.
